Course Syllabus
Welcome! I hope all of you had a great summer and are excited to get back to school. I am looking forward to a wonderful year.
Course Description
Throughout the year you will be studying the history, geography, and cultures of the Eastern Hemisphere. We will be investigating Africa, Asia, Australia, and Europe. You will identify, research, and explain the issues of these places and understand how they have been influenced by people and past events. We will compare, describe, and map the landscape of the Eastern Hemisphere. You will learn how geography affects the movement and lifestyles of the people that live there. Throughout the year we will be comparing and discussing how the Eastern Hemisphere affects the United States.
Main Ideas…
Expectations
-Arrive to class on-time and prepared.
-All of your assignments completed on-time and legible.
- Be respectful of yourself and of others.
-Be enthusiastic and excited to learn.
-Work hard.
*All rules in the student handbook are to be observed and followed at all times. Students that choose not to follow these rules will be subject to disciplinary measures.
Grading Scale
Daily Assignments/Homework: 20%
Projects/Quizzes: 30%
Tests: 50%
Notice: Tests are weighted the heaviest. That means that they will affect your grade the most. It is important that you are prepared for the tests throughout the year.
Late Work
Late work will be accepted at a cost of a reduced grade. The more days the assignment is late, the bigger the reduction of points. I will not accept missing assignments after the unit of study is complete. Projects are due on the due date. If you are absent from school then it is your responsibility to turn in the project before the end of the school day unless you have made previous arrangements with me.
Assessment
In order for me to fully understand what you have learned during this year, I will be assessing you through homework, projects, in-class assignments, quizzes, and tests.
If you feel that you would like extra help I am available before and after school everyday. I am more than willing to help; all you have to do is ask.
